Frequently Asked Questions
Dining Options at Highland Lodge
Our House Bar & Restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday from 5 PM to 9 PM year-round, except during Vermont’s “stick season” (late fall) and “mud season” (spring), when we pause for a month each. To ensure availability, especially during busy times, we highly recommend our overnight guests make dinner reservations in advance. You can check our availability and seasonal closures via the OpenTable link on our website.
Availability Questions
If our **availability calendar** shows we're full for your desired dates, it’s most likely accurate. Guests can book up to 365 days in advance, and summer dates tend to fill quickly. Don’t wait to secure your reservation for peak seasons!
Ski Trail Passes
While guests enjoy ski-in/ski-out access to the stunning Craftsbury Outdoor Center (COC) Nordic trail system, ski passes must be purchased directly through the **Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s website** for daily or season use.
Lodge Amenities
- **Lodge Rooms**: While individual rooms in the lodge don’t include refrigerators or microwaves, a shared refrigerator in the main living room is available for guest use. Please remember to collect your items before departure.
- **Cabin Amenities**: Most cabins are equipped with kitchenettes, fully stocked with cooking essentials (cups, plates, cookware, cleaning supplies). **Wolf Cabin** includes a full stove/oven. All cabins feature refrigerators, coffee makers, and toasters. The **Edna** and **Grace Cabins**, however, do not include kitchenettes.
Breakfast
Breakfast is complimentary for overnight guests! Enjoy a buffet of homemade treats, with special offerings prepared daily.
WiFi and Cell Service
WiFi is available in the main lodge and often extends to nearby cabins, though connectivity may vary due to our rustic location in Vermont. While cell service is generally strong around the property, some spots offer better reception than others—embracing the charm of unplugging!
Televisions
We don’t have TVs in the lodge or cabins. Enjoy the peace of the Northeast Kingdom and reconnect with nature.
Lunch Options
Our kitchen is closed during lunch hours, but local eateries like Craftsbury Genny, Willey’s Store, and Highland Center for the Arts Café offer fantastic options. Dinner and drinks are served Thursday–Sunday, 5 PM–9 PM.
Pet Policy
As of January 1, 2023, our cottages are no longer pet-friendly. While we love furry companions, the wear and tear on our facilities prompted this decision. Reservations made before 2023 will still be honored, but no new pet accommodations will be accepted.
Private Beach Access
Our private beach is exclusive to our overnight guests. We do not sell day or season passes to the beach to maintain a serene and intimate experience.
Boating at the Beach
Guests are welcome to bring small boats or paddleboards but should avoid leaving them unattended to prevent other guests from mistaking them for communal property. Dockage for motorboats is not permitted.
Recreational Equipment
We offer complimentary use of various watercraft, including sailboats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and paddleboats, along with PFDs and paddles. For additional equipment rentals, there is a garage in downtown Greensboro providing daily rentals for bikes and other gear.
Alcohol Policy
Guests may enjoy their own alcoholic beverages in their cabins or at the beach (no glass bottles allowed). However, due to our liquor license, outside alcohol cannot be consumed on the lodge porch, backyard beer garden, or other restaurant-designated areas.
Air Conditioning
While the lodge doesn’t have air conditioning, our higher elevation keeps things cool, even in summer. For warmer days, a few cabins—Wolf, Wallace, Tudor, and Mamet—feature A/C as part of their electric heat pump systems.
Check-In/Out
Check-in: 3 PM
Check-out: 11 AM
When you arrive, use the far-left door on the porch to check in. If the desk is unattended, call us at **802.322.4456** and press the star key to reach us directly.
What’s Highland Lodge Like These Days?
It’s better than ever! We’ve made thoughtful updates to keep the lodge vibrant and welcoming while honoring its rich history.
